Okay – I realize we’re a week into 2023. Hear me out: I intentionally waited until the second week to post this. I think we all come in with this big energy thinking of all the super incredible things we’re going to do to lose weight and become rich while wearing the best clothes and winning all of the coolest awards… and then the magic wears off. Hello, reality! We take down the happy decorations, we go back to work, bills are due, and life starts happening again. BYE new resolutions!
Tips for Crushing Your New Year’s Resolutions
But what if we stick with it? What if rather than saying “I want to” we switch it to “I WILL.” What if we speak with intention and with confidence? What if we stop thinking about all of the obstacles that are inevitably going to be thrown our way, and start thinking about how great we will feel to cross things off of that goal sheet.
Think of the last time you did something really hard. When you started, you might have felt okay. Then doubt creeps in, and you either quit (and never knew what could have been) or you pushed past the uncomfortable feeling and the feeling of relief and accomplishment took over. How awesome would it feel it experience that over and over?
I make goals every year. Now aside from the fact that I am a hard enneagram 7 and also have ADHD, I just don’t stick to them. I make exceptions to all of my goals. “Well, I ate *better*” “I traveled *more*” “I spent *less* money.” Okay, great freakin job, K. How can we change that? How can we actually accomplish them?
Get Very Specific
Think of everything you want to accomplish in the future. Maybe like a 5 year plan. Now think (realistically) what can you do to improve your life this year? I’m not saying change everything about yourself. Don’t do that. I’m sure you’re great. But how can you become the best version of yourself right now? Write it down. Where you create a note in your phone, or write it out on paper- just do it.
Next, you need to evaluate that list. How can you achieve those goals? What steps need to be done? Who do you need to talk to do? What tasks need done? What investments need to be made? What do you need to increase in your life? What do you need to get rid of?
Think of Who & What Your Surround Yourself With
I know it’s cliche, but you really ARE your surroundings. If you’re surrounded by poor circumstances, lack of support, and negativity- that’s going to full your thoughts. Now I realize this is not always easy to remove yourself from. If you’re able to, surround yourself with people that make you feel GOOD. Successful people. People who make you smile. People who push you in the best ways, and make you feel lighter and light you can do anything. If that’s not an option for you right now- 1. Hi, it’s me. I’ll cheer you on!!! Please reach out. 2. Podcasts, books, feel good shows, removing yourself from bad situations and going for a walk, or meditating are great options.
Here are some of my top recommendations:
There are SO many more, but those are the first that come to mind!
Now once you have your goals set, make a vision board. Once again, this can be done on your phone or on a poster. I’ve done both! In the past, I bought a piece of poster board and cut pictures from magazines and printed from the internet and I hung it in my office. This year, I saved a ton of pictures on Pinterest and made a pic collage on Canva. You can also use PowerPoint, or I’m sure there’s many other apps out there!!
Here is my vision board for the next year(ish):

Last step:
Manifest Your Resolutions
Hang it up, take a picture and make it your background on your phone, computer, iPad, anywhere you can see it. Look at that goals list and at your vision board every single day, and speak it into existence. Pretend you’re already living it. DO NOT listen to the people that are going to try to drag you down- because it will happen. Do it for you, do it for your supporters, and do it to prove the doubters wrong. Speak it into existence, pray about it, rub some crystals, mediate over it, whatever you believe in your heart and mind will make it come true- do it.
Need help with goal ideas? Here’s a list of a few topics for ideas, but don’t pick like.. 20 goals and overwhelm yourself. OR ones that are easy and you were going to accomplish anyways. Challenge yourself by picking 3-5 that mean a lot to you and will push you. And don’t forget to get specific!
Exercise, Eating Habits, Health, Work, Reading, Goal in a relationship, Screen time, Family, Travel, Financial, Big purchase
And if you fail this year, we can start again together next year. 😉
Always amazed by your insight. Thank you for saying exactly what we all need to hear. One day at a time—and forgive ourselves and start again!
